.) Yes, we DO plan on Certifying our EMR Product(s) to the criteria and requirements published by the ONC in 2010.
.) No, CCHIT has NOT been named as THE certifying authority. Many people and vendors would like for you to believe otherwise. In fact, we feel that CCHIT certified products will place unnecessary financial and personnel burdens on smaller healthcare facilities and increase total cost of ownership.
.) Our impression is that the Final Rule releaesd by the ONC in 2010 has rendered CCHIT Certification irrelevant for smaller healthcare facilities.
.) We have been working diligently on a certified product since the Final Rule was published in Fall of 2010. We expect to have a certified product no later than July of 2011. (We actually did not complete certification until September of 2011...we think that was pretty good, considering we had two people on the project and certified both Inpatient and Ambulatory EHR products).
.) Our feeling (and that of many other experts in EHR technology) is that it is advisable to wait until Fall of 2011 to begin certification of your facility with respect to Meaningful Use. If you do so earlier, you place unnecessary burden and restrictions (calendar-wise) on your facility.
